Who said this about evolution?

'From first to last it is a dish of rank materialism cleverly cooked up ... . And why is this done? For no other reason, I am sure, except to make us independent of a Creator.'1

Adam Sedgwick (1785- 1873), British geologist and Professor of Geology at Cambridge, England. This was written by Sedgwick in about 1861 after he had read Darwin's book On the Origin of Species.

Adam Sedgwick, cited in Ronald Clark, The Survival of Charles Darwin, Random House, New York, NY, USA, 1984, p. 139.
