Do Genesis 1 and 2 contradict each other?

10 Apr, 201200:59

In Genesis chapter 2 the order of creation seems to be different to that in chapter 1 with the plants being created after Adam. Does the Bible contradict itself here? Find more at Creation.com

A close look at the original language reveals that the plants mentioned in Chapter 2 verse 5 refers to cultivated plants only, not all plants. The point being made is that in the world before the curse -- before the appearance of thorns and thistles -- no one was needed to cultivate plants.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Genesis 2 is not a chronological account like chapter 1. It focuses mostly on the details of Day 6.

When the Bible appears to contradict itself, careful study always reveals that the Bible is free of contradiction. It really is the Word of God.
