Does the Bible say the Earth is flat?

00:5611 Apr, 2012

In an effort to imply that Biblical writers were primitive, many people have said that the Bible teaches that the earth is flat.

Even though the round shape of our planet was an obvious conclusion when watching ships disappear over the horizon and by observing eclipse shadows, what does the Bible say?

The implication of a round earth is seen in the New Testament where Jesus described his return. In Luke 17:31, Jesus said, "In that day," then in verse 34, "In that night." This is an allusion to light on one side of the globe and darkness on the other simultaneously.

In the Old Testament we read in Isaiah 40:22 - It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth...

Inspired by their Creator, the earth's shape was well known to Biblical writers.
